Circulation

Response to posting "Any Direction"

In response to questions asked in a posting titled 'Any Direction' dated 11/24/07 the Planning Staff has prepared the following: Staff has developed a draft of the circulation element and it is posted on this website in separate section, and is not in a single document format. The draft does include an objective that mentions consolidating bus access in the downtown. That objective was taken directly from the Regional Transportation Plan. Both the Mid-Island Area Plan and subsequent traffic study recommend a Mid-Island 'transit facility' or 'central stop', as well as route modification to consolidate the NRTA routes through the area to provide more convenient service. Although considered, a 'Hub' for all the routes with only one route providing exclusive service between downtown and Mid-Island was not recommended. The Planning Board will have a public hearing to discuss the draft. That meeting has not yet been scheduled. You may also submit comments in advance to Mike Burns. Staff is reviewing the comments and may answer questions as comments are posted. Thank you for your comments.

ANY DIRECTION

Has the "Circulation" element of the Master Plan been developed? Even in DRAFT form? If yes, are there some components in it that would provide some direction for the location of a NRTA "transit hub"? If not, will one be developed soon? If so, how? Will citizens have an opportunity to participate? I note that there is mention in the Mid-Island Plan, available on the Town website, of a mid-island transit hub. Has this been taken into consideration in terms of future plans for the Island-Spirits property? Thank you. D. Anne PS To whom are these comments going? Members of the Planning Board? As an aside, it is difficult to see one's entire post, because the space provided is VERY small. Perhaps it can be increased. However, it is very positive to note that this site is back up and running. Thank you to whomever is responsible.
